Samsung just made a notable move in the AI space, and it’s one worth paying attention to. The South Korean tech giant has announced a significant expansion of its Galaxy AI ecosystem, doubling down on what it’s calling a “multi-agent” approach — and the headline addition is Perplexity, the AI-powered search assistant that’s been quietly building a serious following.
The timing makes sense. According to Samsung’s own research, nearly 8 in 10 users are already bouncing between more than two AI agents depending on what they need to get done. People aren’t loyal to a single AI tool — they’re picking whichever one fits the job. Samsung is essentially acknowledging that reality and building around it rather than fighting it.
What makes this more than just another partnership announcement is how Perplexity is being baked in. This isn’t an app sitting in a folder somewhere. Perplexity will operate at the system level, deeply embedded across core Samsung apps including Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder and Calendar. Users can summon it with a voice wake phrase — “Hey Plex” — or by holding the side button. That’s the kind of frictionless access that actually changes how people use their devices day-to-day.
Samsung’s COO Won-Joon Choi framed Galaxy AI as an “orchestrator” — a layer that pulls different AI agents together into one cohesive experience rather than forcing users to manage them separately. That’s an ambitious vision, and honestly, it’s the right one.
Specific device support details are still coming, but the direction is clear: Samsung is building an open AI ecosystem on its own terms, and it’s moving fast.
